What’s my website about?

Welcome to “Mind over Matter; Work in Progress”

The concept behind this website is to learn and share resources about coping mechanisms for mental health ailments while also raising awareness about it. It is especially for those individuals who may suffer from mental health ailments, and for those who want to learn about such ailments and/ or how to manage stress in their lives. It is also for those who may suffer from mental ailments as a result of physical health conditions, socio-economic and/ or other challenges.
At first the audience that I was targeting was medical students. When I started to face adversities, I realized as a medical student I did not have many resources to help me. So I wanted to create a forum for students to learn how to cope with school along with other life stressors.
While on my healing journey I learned that many other health professionals suffer from mental ailments as well and do not seek help. This is because mental health issues in ‘our culture’ are unfortunately still considered a taboo. (Please read more about this in my informative blog: Attn: Health care providers and ‘our’ mental health).

This stigma however, does not only exist in the health care profession. In this dog eat dog world, many suffer from some mental ailment or another and feel similarly hesitant to seek help.
Thus I wanted to create a safe, non-judgmental space for those who want to learn how to cope with difficult emotions and mental health issues.
As I reflect on my experiences, I become a firmer believer in holistic medicine that avoids band aid solutions to medical issues, and probes further into deep seated psychological and social issues. I hope the resources I provide will help you on every/any level.

Disclaimer: I am not yet a medical professional. All my blogs are based on experiential learning. I cite my sources and mentors.
Furthermore I believe medicine, therapies are individualized. Every therapy may not work for everyone, or could yield different results. But feel free to experiment with different tools and ‘if the shoe fits, wear it.’ If not, try another.
If you have comments and/or helpful posts please message me through the contact page and I will try to respond as soon as possible.

Also if your symptoms are extremely severe, please consult a professional immediately; whether it’s a family physician, psychiatrist or a counselor.
Students, most schools have counselors. So if you feel the need, please reach out to them and don’t feel ashamed or guilty about doing so. I did!

Hope you find this website helpful and insightful!

P.S. I’m new to creating a website and blogging so please bear with me.
Thank you!
